Following the announcement of the Panmunjeom Declaration for Peace, Prosperity, and Unification of the Korean Peninsula after the Inter-Korean Summit on April 27, and the forecast of North Korea-U.S. Summit on June 12, the outlook has been spread for exchanges between North and South Korea in every field, including art and culture. Before discussing the direction of cultural exchange between North Korea and South Korea in detail, we need to look into how the government of Kim Jong-un is inheriting culture and art from the government of Kim Jong-il, and how it is progressing. This forum is intended to be an opportunity where one can examine the current trends of art and culture overall in North Korea, as well as the present status of its cultural heritage and visual art, fields that have been exposed to active exchange with South Korea.

A Conference Commemorating the 1100th Anniversary of Establishment of Goryeo and the 1000th Anniversary of the Naming of Gyeonggi

The Gyeonggi Institute of Cultural Properties will host a conference on the subject of ‘Topological changes of Gyeonggi during the Goryeo Dynasty and archaeology of the Middle Ages’ in cooperation with the Korea Middle Ages Archaeological Society in celebration of the 1100th Anniversary of Establishment of Goryeo and the 1000th Anniversary of the Naming of Gyeonggi.

The conference will be comprised of six presentations and debates by topic followed by a general debate. The historical and geographical meanings of the Gyeonggi and Ganghwa areas following the Goryeo period will be observed along with research developments of excavated remains and the discovery of relics in Gyeonggi Province from the Goryeo Dynasty.

We hope that this conference will offer an observation of the historical vicissitudes of Gyeonggi Province that continue to create new history today, and that this will help us to newly recognize the identity of the Gyeonggi area.

We ask for the participation of those who love Gyeonggi’s past and present, relevant specialists, and anyone who would like to learn more about Gyeonggi.

[2018 Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus] Spring and Sky, MMM

M3_Opening Performance_Spring and Sky, MMM
The performance is to celebrate the opening of M3, the new space at Gyeonggi Sangsang Space. This is an ‘audience moving type’ performance that the music can be heard differently depends on the space structure and the location of audience. There are eight difference spaces numbered from #0 to #7 throughout the building from the first floor to the rooftop. Gayageum players from G1 to G9 are in each space and they start the music of its own space when the audiences enter. In order to listen to the music, the audiences should follow minimum rules made by the space’s original nature. However, this depends on the free will of the audience.

With the imagining of M3’s past and its future role, we made this work hoping to be an open space where various opportunities coexist.

M3 X Kyungso Park
The dark ground is permeated with water. The molecules of water have penetrated here and there as even they were not aware of going to where. Spring has come. I have waited the spring for so long and it has come to me already. It has brought the green in so deeply and now it would disappear in a flash.

Water will not stop.
Spring will not be caught.

Come to me and leave. It is you that I will be embraced.

The sky has been there always and it has painted differently each time. It calmly shook the world.
