A Conference Commemorating the 1100th Anniversary of Establishment of Goryeo and the 1000th Anniversary of the Naming of Gyeonggi

Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (director Seol Won-gi) holds a conference on the theme of The Historical Significance of Establishment of Goryeo and Naming of Gyeonggi from 10 AM to 6 PM April 28 (Sat). The conference was prepared with the cooperation of the Incheon Foundation for Art & Culture and the Korean History Society in commemoration of the 1100th anniversary of the foundation of Goryeo and the 1000th anniversary of the naming of Gyeonggi.

This conference, co-sponsored by IFA and GGCF and supervised by KHS, is based on the MOU that were signed by the three organizations (IFA, GGCF and KHS) on February 7 (Wed), in order for their cooperation in the business of commemorating the 1100th anniversary of the establishment of Goryeo and the 1000th anniversary of the naming of Gyeonggi.

The conference will be composed of two parts, each consisting of 4 presentations & debates. The theme of the first part will be “the History of the Goryeo and Gyeonggi Region”. In this part, researchers of the Goryeo Dynasty will introduce the history of Gyeonggi from the Goryeo period. The theme of the second part will be “a metaphysical approach to Goryeo and Gaegyeong”. The researchers of ancient times, the Joseon Period, and of modern times will explain Goryeo and Gaegyeong, the capital city of Goryeo, from the perspective of each era. The presentations and debates will be wrapped up for the final discussion and Q&A time for the researchers and the audience.

The Incheon Foundation for Art & Culture and the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation will compile the results from in-depth research on the culture and history of Gyeonggi and Incheon, taking this event as an opportunity for domestic experts to exchange their academic accomplishments through the cooperation between the two cultural foundations.

2018 Gyeonggi Fortress Tour 《Let’s Climb the Fortress!》

《Let’s Climb the Fortress!》 is a program for fortress tours in Gyeonggi Province, operated by the Gyeonggi Institute of Cultural Properties. The program opened in 2017 to help participants to better understand history and historical figures by exploring nature and one of the seven fortresses in Gyeonggi that are relatively easy to explore, accompanied by a specialist. Around 600 have taken part in the program so far.
2018 《Let’s Climb the Fortress!》 includes a new tour of Ganghwasanseong Fortress, a heritage related to the transfer of the capital city to Ganghwa, to celebrate the millennium anniversary of the naming of ‘Gyeonggi’ and the 1100th anniversary of the foundation of Goryeo. The program will continue to include the tours of Pasaseong Fortress in Yeoju, Iseongsanseong Fortress in Hanam, and Horogoru Embankment in Yeoncheon, all of which have received high praise in 2017.

2018 Let’s Play at Bukhansanseong Fortress

《Let’s Play at Bukhansanseong Fortress》 is a program for experiencing the Bukhansanseong Fortress that is run by the Gyeonggi Institute of Cultural Properties. Children will have a chance to play with blocks to build a Bukhansanseong miniature, visit the fortress, and make a rubbing, as well as receiving education on the history of Bukhansanseong Fortress and its cultural assets.

Why not take a moment for learning, exchange, and healing at Bukhansanseong Fortress, nicknamed the “museum without a roof” because it contains a variety of cultural heritages and preserves such gorgeous natural scenery?

2018 Spring Programs of Gyeonggi Living Culture Center of Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus

The Gyeonggi Living Culture Center of the Gyeonggi Sangsang Campus is offering diverse programs (education, workshops, festivals, workshop residency) as an open cultural space for the local residents in order to promote lifestyle culture. The spring program list includes various programs from book games and forest experience programs for children to gardening and exercise programs for adults.
